Bristol University Symphony Orchestra Concert

Evening Concert - Bristol University Symphony Orchestra

Saturday 03 December 2005, 19:30 - 21:30
Main Auditorium, Victoria Rooms

Conducted by John Pickard

  • George Lloyd: Symphony no. 7
  • Mussorgsky (orchestrated by Ravel): Pictures at an Exhibition

A concert with two superbly contrasting masterworks. Ravel's brilliant orchestration of Mussorgsky's piano suite, one of the great showpieces of the orchestral repertoire, is a wonderful opportunity for the players of the University Orchestra to demonstrate their virtuosity. There is also a rare opportunity to hear the Seventh Symphony by the English composer George Lloyd (1913-1998), a powerful, passionate work composed in the 1950s and inspired by the Greek myth of Proserpine.

Tickets: £8.00 (concessions £5.00) available from 25 October
