There are cages for the storage of large instruments (cellos/trombones, etc) in the basement of the Victoria Rooms. These are normally available to music students who play in an ensemble which rehearses in the Victoria Rooms. Entitlement to use of space in cages will be allocated on a first come, first served basis to Music students at registration. The porters will hand out the keys in return for your ID card when you need to collect your instrument. Cages may not be used for storing anything other than instruments. Limited storage for harps and double basses is available in the Large Instrument Rooms (G8 and B31). Keys for these rooms may be issued at the discretion of the Department of Music against a deposit. A written agreement to ensure security will be required. All instruments must be removed during vacations and at the end of the academic year.
The Department owns a number of instruments, which may be borrowed by students (e.g. piccolo, alto flute, cor anglais, bass clarinet, tuba, two double basses, percussion and a set of baroque string instruments). If you wish to borrow any of these, consult John Pickard; you will be required to complete and sign a "Memorandum of Agreement for Instrument Loan", available from the Department Office.
