This is now completed and has been published as ‘Anglophone musical culture in Jamaica’, in Art and Emancipation in Jamaica: Isaac Mendes Belisario and his worlds ed Tim Barringer, Gillian Forrester and Barbaro Martinez-Ruiz (Yale University Press, 2007): 138-49, the sumptuous (600-page!) catalogue accompanying an amazing exhibition marking the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the British slave trade currently showing at the Yale Centre for British Art in New Haven, CT, USA. The publication has just been singled out by Marina Warner in the Times Literary Supplement as a book of the year.
