Music in the British Empire: a documentary history through the general press, 1765-1965

This is an annotated anthology of newspaper readings about music from around the British Empire, from Antigua to New Zealand, Nova Scotia to Hong Kong, Cyprus to St Helena. Drawing on the British Library’s superb collection of Empire and Commonwealth newspapers, Phase 1 deals with the period 1765-1901 and will be formally proposed to a publisher upon completion in mid-2009. Phase 2 will follow, hopefully with postdoctoral assistance.
