Alumni return to maths to share their experiences

Alumni Event 2019

30 April 2019

On 5 March 2019 we welcomed six alumni to talk to our current students about their employability journeys.

Presentations were engaging and covered a variety of sectors including Postgraduate Study, Civil Service, Intelligence Information, Energy, Record Management and Data Science.

The presentations were followed by the opportunity for current students to network with the alumni and find out more about their career paths. Overall, their advice was to get involved with internships and other opportunities and keep an open mind about the future.

Senior Tutor and Careers Contact for Maths, Roman Schubert, hosted the event. He said: "It was great to see some of our former students again and hear about their exciting careers and how they got there. I think it made a big difference for our current students to hear first-hand experiences from alumni who recently graduated from the same course they are on."

Event organiser Anna Coates said: “We aim to show students the variety of interesting opportunities they can choose from and encourage them to move onto the next stage of their career preparation”.

The feedback was positive with students reporting an increased understanding about employability avenues and resources.
