Final-year student Sally has won the Education award at the Bristol Student Union (SU) Awards.

The SU awards were held on 13 June and celebrated students across a number of categories, including sustainability, volunteering, collaboration and more. Students, staff and members of the Bristol community nominate students and staff based on their contributions to the student community.

Fourth year Mathematics student Sally Emerson won the Education award for her work as Science Faculty Rep and Chair of the Education Network. The awarding panel highlighted Sally’s commitment to these roles and the time she invested into creating a sense of community with the reps she worked with and both staff and students.

Sally was also a student representative for the School of Maths.

Senior Tutor Dr Roman Schubert said: "I am very pleased that Sally’s manifold contributions to the University and our students are recognized in this way. When we reviewed our Mathematics curriculum a few years ago, Sally was very engaged with the several consultations we held with students - I valued her input highly."

Sally said: "Student representation has been a key part of my university experience, from being a course rep in first year, through to Faculty Representative and Chair of the Education Network in my final year.  I am so grateful for the opportunities I've had to connect with other students and staff, and work together to move the university in a positive direction for students.

"I encourage every student to run to be a course rep and see where it takes you!"
