New Research Associate in Applied Mathematics/Theoretical Physics
20 January 2017
Dr Aurore Loisy joins the School of Mathematics as a Postdoctoral Research Associate.
- Where are you from originally?
I am from France, and I grew up in a small town located in the Jura Mountains.
Could you briefly explain your research to the mathematical layman?
My research interests are in fluid mechanics, specifically in active fluids and interface dynamics. A major application of my current research is the motility of living cells.
- Where did you study your PhD and with whom?
I did my PhD at the Université de Lyon with Peter Spelt and Aurore Naso.
- Where did you live before Bristol? Do you have a place you’d recommend to go to?
I lived in Lyon for 10 years, and would definitely recommend having a walk along the riverbanks and stopping for a drink on the deck of a peniche (docked barge with bar). I also enjoyed living in Berkeley, California, where I spent a year before starting my PhD.
