Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
We actively support University wide programmes:
Stonewall Diversity Champions programme – A programme for ensuring all lesbian, gay, bi and trans (LGBT+) staff are accepted without exception in the workplace.
What are we doing in the Faculty of Life Sciences
These targeted activities contribute to the success of our students, staff and the Faculty.
Athena SWAN Awards
We recognise and commit ourselves to advancing gender equality in science employment in higher education and research.
Regular consultation with staff and students
The health and happiness of our staff and students is extremely important. In the Faculty we are dedicated to supporting you and discussing any issues you have.
We understand that getting the work-life balance right is important. We endeavour to support flexible working for colleagues who have personal responsibilities and interests outside of work. Visit for the University positive working page for more information.
Faculty Advisors Scheme
Set up to enable our employees to exchange their own experiences and knowledge. This could be anything from finding childcare to preparing for a specific grant call; from moving to Bristol to planning a conference.
A judgement-free society offering a great way to meet like-minded people, discuss LGBT+ issues and also have a lot of fun through our coffee afternoons, pub quizzes, nights out, movie nights, and inter-university events.
Our Outreach team runs activities including: Access to Bristol, Life Sciences Taster Days and Skirting Science in schools and the wider community to reinforce the message that science is for everyone.
