Short Loan Collection (SLC)

The Medical Library does not have a permanent Short Loan Collection (SLC) at the moment, but is operating a quick-response, temporary short loan system for books that are most in demand.

You can use the library catalogue to find out if a particular book is held in the SLC. For items listed as short loan on the library catalogue please ask at the Issue Desk.

Further advice is available on the How to find a particular book page.

Limits and fines

You may borrow a maximum of 2 SLC items.

SLC books are available for use in the Library at any time and should be returned to the Issue Desk after use so that they may be made available for other students to use.

Loan periods

SLC items may be borrowed for use outside the Library from 4.00pm and must be returned by 10.00am the following day. SLC items borrowed at 4.00pm on Friday must be returned by 10.00am the following Monday.

SLC items cannot be renewed online or by phone.

Fines

Take special care to return SLC items on time as they are in heavy demand and other readers may be wanting to use them. Fines for SLC items brought back late are particularly heavy - 40 pence per hour or part of an hour, per item.

Reserving books

Short loan items can be reserved on the library system and will be available for 3-hour loan periods during the day, and over-night from 4.00pm to 10.00am the following day.

You may reserve a particular book for a particular day upon request at the Issue desk.

Academic staff wishing to have an item transferred to the SLC

Academic staff should contact their Subject Librarian, if they wish to have an item temporarily transferred to the SLC.
