The Library completed a refurbishment of the first and second floors of the Arts and Social Sciences Library in the summer of 2011. The project has transformed the upper floors of the Arts and Social Sciences Library into attractive, comfortable spaces that properly support quiet and silent study. This was achieved by replacing worn carpet and furniture, and by providing power points for laptop use. Additionally, improvements to the layout allow for different styles of studying.
Planning took place from October to December 2010, with work occurring from July to September 2011. The refurbishments include a consolidation of library staff space and the reorganisation of some books and journals, as well as the continuation of moving low use books and journals to the Store to create space for newer items and the withdrawal of some print journals where the Library can offer secure online access. The library remained open throughout the refurbishment.
ASSL library users were involved in the planning phase to help make decisions on space configurations and the types and quantities of furniture for the refurbished areas.
Below are some images of the new look library (left) and how it was before the refurbishment (right).
