The Arts and Social Sciences Library offers a range of study spaces to suit particular needs. The Ground Floor provides a mix of soft seating and study tables to facilitate discussion or to use as a place to take study breaks. The First and Second Floors are silent areas made up of study desks with power for laptop use and a variety of soft seating; it is not permitted to consume food or drink on the upper floors with the exception of bottled water.
There are four group study rooms on the First Floor for collaborative working. One is available on a first come first served basis and three may be booked for two hour slots at a time via the Welcome Desk on the Ground Floor. Consecutive slots may not be booked however at the end of the session a further slot may be booked if available. Group members will be required to deposit their Ucards at the Welcome Desk on collection of the room key. These rooms are provided to support the study requirements of UoB students and are in high demand; they are not available for students to use as meeting venues with external bodies or to external library users. Due to the pressure on spaces and in fairness to those requiring collaborative workspace these rooms are not available for use by one person alone or for telephone interviews.
Please note that in fairness to other library users room bookings lapse if the key is not collected within 15 minutes of the start time.
Individual workstations for viewing region one and two DVDs are available on the Second Floor of the library for slots of up to three hours at a time; you will need to bring headphones with you to avoid disturbing others. Please collect a ticket from the Welcome Desk on the Ground Floor.
Group multimedia viewing facilities are also available on the Second Floor for use by students wishing to view Audio Visual material and discuss it collaboratively as part of their course. Booking and room pack collection is via the Welcome Desk on the Ground Floor.
A new study area is available for University of Bristol Arts and Social Science PhD students, including MLitt students, on the first floor. The room provides a quiet and comfortable working environment for 16 student researchers. Entry is via swipe Ucard access and spaces are available on a first come first served basis. To register your card for access visit the Membership Services office on the Ground Floor of the library or email: lib-access@bristol.ac.uk Please note that you will need to allow 24 hours for the system to update and swipe card access to be activated.
