Debra Avent-Gibson

Debra is the Faculty Librarian for the Faculties of Science and  Engineering and is Subject Librarian for Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Engineering Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics and Physics.

Faculty Librarian responsibilities include:

Leading the Faculties' Subject Librarian teams, co-ordinating liaison work, collection development activities, information literacy teaching programmes, and promotion of the collections and services, in support of teaching, learning and research across the Faculty.

Subject Librarian responsibilities include:

• Liaising with academic colleagues in the departments listed above.
• Support for academic staff and students in their research, learning and teaching activities, including dealing with subject enquiries.
• Providing library induction to new staff and students, and library and information skills training to all levels of students.
• Managing collections and electronic resources provision, technical/ non-technical support for databases, and promoting new and existing library services and resources.

Qualifications

• BSc Econ (Hons) in Library and Information Studies, University of Wales (Aberystwyth)

• Member of the Science Faculty Board
• Chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP)
