Literature references are often written with abbreviated terms. Probably the most troublesome are abbreviated journal titles which can make finding a journal difficult. There is only one accepted way to quote abbreviated titles of mathematics journals:
The list of journals abstracted in Mathematical Reviews gives the abbreviations in common and accepted use by mathematicians throughout the World. Mathematical Reviews is available online at MathSciNet.
Most mathematics journal articles include an abstract with keywords and the American Mathematics Society subject classification number. The AMS Subject Classification Index will be found in Mathematical Reviews which is available online via MathSciNet.
Please note: these should not be used in the references that you write, unless they are stipulated by the body or journal that you are submitting your work to.
