Information about:

Books and printed journals

The majority of the Linguistics collections can be found on the second floor of the Arts and Social Sciences Library, at classmark range P, while serials on the subject are located on the second floor at Serial P. Books and serials on psychology may be found at classmarks BF and Serial BF respectively, on the first floor.

  • Note that some of our holdings published before 1978 have not yet been added to the online catalogue. If you cannot find a pre - 1978 publication on the online catalogue, please use our Card Catalogue Online, which has replaced our paper-based card catalogue.
  • Owing to their size, some books (linguistic atlases in particular) in the collections referred to above are prefixed "Oversize", "Folio" or "Pamphlet". These are kept in separate locations on the relevant floor.
  • A small number of books and journal articles are kept in the Short Loan Collection on the ground floor of the Arts and Social Sciences Library. Books in this collection have an item status of "SLC", while the location for journal articles in the collection is "Issue desk".
  • Please note that the most up to date issues of journals are located in the Current Serials Collection on the first floor of the Arts and Social Sciences Library.
