  • Subject Gateways for Mental Health and Counselling - a list of specialist resources for mental health and counselling, courtesy of Liverpool John Moores University.
  • Intute: Social Sciences - although no longer being updated, as Intute closed in July 2011, the site still offers access to thousands of high quality social sciences Internet resources, each selected and described by academic librarians and subject specialists.
  • Psychology WWW Virtual Library - this site is part of the World Wide Web Virtual Library and any links included are evaluated for their quality as information sources before being listed as a resource.
  • Psychology Self-Help Resources on the Internet - a gateway to a huge number of self help resources on all manner of health and psychological disorders. The listing is maintained by Russell Dewey of Psyc Web, a major source of psychology information on the web.

Professional organisations and associations

  • British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy - the UK's leading advocate association for counselling professionals, supporting the advancement and growth of the counselling profession and of individual counsellors.
  • United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy - the UKCP exists to promote the profession of psychotherapy and to maintain high standards of professional practice. The organisation maintains a national register of psychotherapists and provides professionals with training and professional development support, as well as information on psychotherapy to the public.
  • British Psychoanalytic Council - the BPC is an association of institutions, which comprise psychoanalysts, analytical psychologists, psychoanalytic psychotherapists and child psychotherapists.
  • American Counseling Association (ACA) - the ACA is dedicated to the growth and enhancement of the counselling profession and is the the world's largest association exclusively representing professional counsellors. The site provides useful advice and information to both professional counsellors and the public.
  • British Psychological Society - the BPS is the representative body for psychologists and psychology in the UK. It has national responsibility for the development, promotion and application of psychology for the public good and provides useful information both to psychologists and the public. The BPS has a number of specialist divisions, one of which is the Division of Counselling Psychology and another the Psychotherapy Section.
  • Association for Humanistic Psychology - information on the humanistic psychology movement and the humanistic psychotherapies. An annotated bibliography of further reading on a variety of different subjects of interest to humanistic psychologists and counsellors is provided.
  • Association for Death Education and Counseling - a multi-disciplinary professional organisation dedicated to promoting excellence in death education, bereavement counselling and care of the dying.

  • Athabasca University (Canada) Psychology Resources - Abnormal, Clinical and Counselling - A useful collection of websites on addictions, depressive disorders, psychological disorders and therapy. There are also links to other psychology resources organised by broad subject areas.
  • Yahoo Directory for Counseling and Therapy - A collection of Internet resources on counselling from Yahoo. A keyword search of the directory for matching resources is also possible.
  • Narrative Psychology Internet and Resource Guide - this page is maintained by Vincent Hevern, of the Psychology Dept at Le Moyne College, NY, USA and focuses on narrative perpectives in psychology and related disciplines. It provides a guide to Internet resources concerned with the storied nature of human conduct.
  • Narrativeapproaches.com - this website covers a wide range of resource material on narrative therapy with links to many other related web pages.
  • The Department of Health - this website provides useful information on the UK health service, with a link to the NHS gateway. The site also provides a search option yielding good information on many aspects of counselling within the health service and also gives details of current counselling research projects.
  • Counsellors and Psychotherapists in Primary Care - The aims of the Association are to represent counsellors and psychotherapists working in an NHS setting and to lead the way in establishing national standards and guidelines for further development of professional and effective counselling throughout the NHS.
  • Counselling - a UK counselling charity, which maintains a list of counselling organisations and provides a a searchable list of registered counsellors.
  • Online Dictionary of Mental Health - the dictionary covers all the disciplines contributing to the understanding of mental health. Rather than giving definitions of terminology, there are instead, links to many sites offering different viewpoints on issues in mental health.
  • Pysch-couns mailing list - Psych-couns is a mail list for students and researchers in counselling psychology, counselling and psychotherapy and others who wish to discuss theoretical and research issues in counselling psychology.
  • Narrative-Health-Research - a mailing list for those interested in researching and evaluating the use of narrative in health and related fields.
  • Centre for Reviews and Dissemination - the Centre promotes the use of research-based knowledge in health care. The site can be searched by keyword to find reviews relevant to counselling and psychotherapy.
