Collections

Chemistry resources can be found in the following branches:

  • Most chemistry resources are held in the Chemistry Library
The Chemistry Library classmark scheme shows how the books and journals are arranged. Use the Library catalogue to find the classmark for an item.
  • Some physical chemistry, theoretical chemistry, materials science, polymers - in the Physics Library
  • Biochemistry - in the Medical Library
  • Geochemistry - in the Wills Library
  • Some environmental chemistry - in the Geography and Biological Sciences Libraries
  • Statistics, computing and  materials science - in the Queen's Library

If you need an item which is not available anywhere in the library system here in print or online, you can use the Inter-Library Loans service to obtain it from another library. There is a charge for this service, though you may be able to obtain an Inter-library loan voucher to pay for this. See the information for undergraduates, postgraduates or academics page for details of how to obtain these vouchers.  Access to other university libraries and the British Library may be a useful alternative.

New books

  • New books are displayed on the New Book Display in the Chemistry Library for two weeks, during which time they may be reserved using the Library Catalogue but not borrowed.
  • See the information for undergraduates, postgraduates or academics page for details of how to recommend the purchase of new books, or other materials

Course based materials

A wide range of materials to support Chemistry courses are available in the Chemistry Library (ask at the Desk):

  • Recommended textbooks: in the Short Loan Collection (SLC) and, often, long loan copies in the Desk collection (details are on the catalogue).
  • Examination papers: sets of past examination papers (bound in years) are kept in the Short Loan Collection (SLC) (details are on the catalogue).
  • Most Chemistry undergraduate course materials, including examination papers, workshop questions & answers, and some lecturer’s notes, are available on the School of Chemistry's DLM (Dynamic Laboratory Manual).
  • Student yearbooks, periodic table and molecular building kit are also available. Please ask at the Chemistry Library Desk.
