Collections

Most of the resources for human and pre-clinical veterinary anatomy will be found in the Medical Library, with further specialised collections in the Veterinary Science Library.

The following branches may contain additional material:

  • Bioengineering and biomechanics - in the Queen's Library (Engineering)
  • Cell sciences - in the Biological Sciences Library
  • Dentistry - in the Medical Library
  • Environmental - in the Geography and Biological Sciences Libraries
  • Legislation, reports - in the Arts and Social Sciences and Wills (Law) Libraries
  • Meat science - in the Veterinary Science Library

The Medical Library classmark scheme shows how the books and journals are arranged. Animal anatomy is located at B4c, humananatomy at B4d and Use the Library catalogue to find the classmark for an item.

If you need an item which is not available anywhere in the library system here in print or online, you can use the Inter-Library Loans service to obtain it from another library. There is a charge for this service, though you may be able to obtain an Inter-library loan voucher to pay for this. See the information for undergraduates, postgraduates or academic staff for details of how to obtain these vouchers. Access to other university libraries and the British Library may be a useful alternative.

New books

  • New books are displayed on the New Book Display in the Medical Library for two weeks, during which time they may be reserved using the Library Catalogue but not borrowed. See the new books (UOB access only) list which is updated periodically.
  • See the information for undergraduates, postgraduates or academic staff for details of how to recommend the purchase of new books, or other materials

Course based materials

  • Recommended textbooks: in the Short Loan Collection (SLC) and, often extra copies are available on the open shelves (details are on the Library Catalogue).
  • Reading lists are available in your Unit Handbooks or you can contact the medical librarians for an up-to-date list containing details of the most recent editions.
  • Most Biochemistry undergraduate course materials, including examination papers, workshop questions & answers, and some lecturer’s notes, are available on Blackboard.

Thesis collection

Anatomy PhD, MD, MSc, ChM and DSc theses of staff and students of the Anatomy Department, from 1910 to date, are available in the thesis collection in the Medical Library.

Special collections

The Medical Library contains a special collection of rare books.
