Roundtable Event: 'UN, terrorism, human rights and the EU' 3 November 2008

The Jean Monnet Chair in European Law at the School of Law has organised a roundtable discussion

'Where do we stand after Kadi? UN, terrorism, human rights and the EU'.

On 3 September 2008, the European Court of Justice rendered its judgment in Joined Cases C-402/05 P and C-415/05 P Kadi and Al-Barakaat. Overruling the Court of First Instance, it annulled EU law freezing assets of individuals accused of financing international terrorism  as contrary to fundamental human rights. As the annulled measures were adopted in order to implement United Nations Security Council Resolutions, the Court's judgment has wider implications for the relationship between international and EU law, the regulation of the fight against terrorism, and the protection of fundamental human rights.
