Litigants in Person (LiP Service)

LiP service is a scheme that is run by the Law Clinic in partnership with UWE’s Law School and the University of Law. The aim of this service is to plug the holes left by legal aid cuts.

The number of people going to court without a lawyer has risen significantly since access to legal aid was restricted by the LASPO Act 2013. LiP service provides Litigants in Person with a short but informative presentation for those who feel overwhelmed and uninformed in the lead up to their trial date. Although preparatory instructions are sent to all Litigants in Person, many will still arrive underprepared and unsure of what is to follow.

The students will talk through the court process and all of the important steps that the Litigant will need to take prior to and during the court hearing.

LiP Service runs every Friday between 1-2, at the Bristol Civil Justice Centre. To book an appointment please see our Facebook page: LiP Service Bristol
