Brief interruptions to the University internet network, 8am, 6th September

alert

[12 August 2016]

The main Campus Firewalls needs to be upgraded so they can continue to protect our services from interruption and compromise. The process of upgrading the firewall will result in at least two outages of approximately 3 minutes between 8am and 9am on Tuesday 6th September. This will complete the work which took place on Wednesday 31st August between 8-9am.

These outages will have the following impact:

  • The standard network (i.e. wired PCs) will lose all external connectivity - meaning services hosted off-site, such as google services (gmail), will be unavailable. Most internal services should remain unaffected.
  • Wireless networks (eduroam) will lose all external and internal connectivity.
  • ResNet networks will lose all external and internal connectivity.
  • The Engine Shed will lose all external and internal connectivity.
  • External access to our main website and Blackboard will be unaffected.

No further interruptions are planned after 9am. If you continue to have issues after the work is complete, then please contact the IT Service Desk.
