Dropbox data breach

Last week Dropbox issued a notification to users to change their passwords if their accounts dated back to before mid-2012. The service suffered a data breach about four years ago, and it is believed that data from that incident (email addresses and passwords) have recently surfaced online.

Dropbox has contacted users affected by the breach to force an account password reset. If you reuse your Dropbox password on any other services, then you need to change it for those services as soon as possible.

This incident highlights the dangers of using third party services that are not approved by the University to store data. We strongly recommend that you use one the filestore services made available by the University to store and share work related data, such as Google Drive or Microsoft One Drive.
