Departmental and legacy filestore work, 6 January

Maintenance badge

[09 December 2015]

As part of preparatory work for the new data centre developments early in 2016 IT Services needs to conduct work to move elements of our file storage facility to ensure it is not impacted by future work.

We have made every effort to schedule this work at a time to cause least disruption, outside of teaching and exam periods and one of the most quiet periods of the year.  The work will take place during the working day to ensure all appropriate staff, spanning several teams, are available.

The work to move the file storage will take place on:

  • Wednesday 6th January between 9am and 1pm

During this time files located in the following locations will be unavailable:

  • \\\Filestore\MedSci
  • \\\filestore\EMAT
  • \\\filestore\MECH2‎
  • \\\filestore\Geography\Geog3
  • \\\deptfs\gradsch
  • \\\filestore\COBM
  • \\\DeptFS\biosci2
  • \\\DeptFS\biosci3
  • \\\Filestore\MedSci2
  • \\\DeptFS\aero2
  • ‎\\\filestore\SPOL‎
  • \\\filestore\Arts1
  • \\\filestore\Arts2
  • \\\filestore\Arts2

Whilst we believe that these locations are mostly legacy there may still be some currently used data on them.

At risk notification for Departmental Filestore

Also during this maintenance period work will take place to make changes to the departmental filestore networking. Again this is in preparation for data centre developments. This should not result in any downtime to departmental filestores, but they should be considered at risk for the duration of the work on 6th January.
