IT Services is pleased to announce that staff at the University now have access to download for free Microsoft Office on home computers and can access Microsoft Office apps on tablets and smartphones using their new University of Bristol Office 365 account.

Free Microsoft Office for home use by staff

In partnership with Microsoft we are able to offer all current staff the ability to install Microsoft Office on 5 separate personally owned computers for free. We provided this service to students earlier this year and are very pleased to announce this will be available to staff.

Download Office on your home computer

Microsoft Office 365

This makes Office applications available from mobile devices and any device with a modern web browser.

The main benefits include:

  • full functionality for Microsoft Office applications on tablets and smartphones eg. view, edit, track changes.
  • ability to edit the same document on multiple devices
  • view and edit documents through a web browser using Office Online, without needing the full desktop version of Office to be installed. This works for Windows, Mac and Linux computers.

When the service is available to staff you can simply install Office apps on your device from the App Store or Google Play. Open the app and ‘Sign In’ with your full University username (i.e.ab123@bristol.ac.uk) and University password.

Underpinning this is OneDrive for Business document storage. This is a secure cloud storage service that allows you to access Office documents for viewing and editing across all your devices.
