Jisc, an organisation providing leadership in the use of digital technologies in HE and FE education and research, has recently highlighted how the student IT experience has been championed at the University of Bristol through the role of the Student IT Experience Manager; a dedicated role in IT Services to manage practical improvements to enhance the digital experience of student.

Jisc Digital Student aims to help institutions understand how to respond to students changing expectations of their digital environment and to demonstrate what universities are doing to:

  • engage students
  • understand their changing needs
  • develop strategies to meet those new challenges.

Jisc has published examples of best practice where those challenges are being met across the HE sector, including how the student IT experience has been championed at the University of Bristol (PDF). The case study was selected by Jisc as Bristol had identified the student's experience of IT as being important enough to create a role specifically to manage practical improvements to enhance the digital experience of students.

The case study can be found on the Jisc Digital Student blog, under the 'Exemplars' tab or in the 'Coherent policies on Bring Your Own' Challenge.
