Access to Self-Service forms and TOPdesk from off campus

Update 2 December: The Service Desk system and self-help forms are now available from outside the University network.


Update 27 November: Plans are in place to allow access to the Service Desk system and self-help forms from outside the University. It is hoped this will be in place in the next few weeks.


Due to recently announced server security vulnerabilities the Service Desk system (TOPdesk) access to the service has been restricted to the University network.

Please note that we are reviewing the security of a number of servers and it may be necessary to restrict access to other services to the University network.

This means that staff /students wishing to use the self-service forms or track the progress of requests on the Service Desk system from off-site will need to use the Remote Desktop or VPN service.

This change will affect those away from the University who:

  • are operators on the system and need access to manage tickets
  • staff/students accessing information on current incidents
  • staff /students accessing self-service forms to report a problem or submit a request.

IT Services and Incident Reporting

  • Report a new IT incident
  • View open incidents
  • Request a service tag - Hardware
  • Request a service tag - Mobile Phone
  • Report lost or stolen data / hardware
  • Request a Laptop Check-up (encryption)
  • Service Catalogue Search (Service Owners only)

Hardware purchasing

  • Desktop computer requests
  • Laptop requests

Telephone Services

  • Access change request
  • Create or alter a pickup group
  • Extension fault report
  • Extension number(s) swap
  • Physical works request
  • Voicemail request
  • Video Conferencing session booking
  • booking use of Conference phone
  • booking use of video camera

Access and Permissions

  • Elevated User Rights request
  • File Permissions request
  • Calendar Resource request
  • Check your personal details in TOPdesk (includes device lookup)
  • Register a server (not managed by IT Services)
