Short breaks in internet connections on 16 September, between 8-9am

Fiber optics cable

[20 August 2014]

A software upgrade is needed to the University firewall.

This upgrade will be implemented between 8.00am-9.00am on Tuesday, 16 September.

During this work there will be two 5 minute breaks affecting our primary internet link.

During these brief periods:

  • Staff and students at the University of Bristol will not be able to access external web sites, Bristol Gmail and other internet resources via the network or wireless. This will also affect those using facilities at the Bristol Engine Shed.
  • Bristol users visiting other eduroam organisations or using eduroam at Bristol City Council locations might not be able to connect.
  • Those outside the University will not be able to access Bristol based web sites and resources.
  • Bristol users using ResNet will not be able to connect until after the maintenance is complete.

Access to internal services from campus should be unaffected.

Please contact the IT Service Desk if you have any questions.
