Upgrade to the filestore service in August-October following problems seen in July

[28 September 2012]

In July we saw a number of incidents regarding MyFiles, roaming appdata and the domain controllers which caused problems such as delayed log on to computers and intermittent issues with software such as Microsoft Office becoming unresponsive (see the message to all staff on 19 July and the news items).

Work took place at the time to mitigate these problems and we have been in a stable situation since then. We now plan to implement additional upgrades to ensure that we remain stable for the long term.

The first stage is to move the MyFiles service and roaming appdata to new hardware. This work will commence on 13 August and continue through until mid September. The work will start with moving appdata, followed by student Myfiles on 20 August, and finally staff MyFiles on 1 October.

There should be no break in services as this work takes place and existing connections will continue to work.

Work will also be taking place over the next two months to upgrade the domain controllers to ensure we have a resilient and high performing authentication process to the above services.
