PIMS

Description

The Personnel Information Management System (PIMS), developed in-house, maintains the centrally-held data about members of staff (including honorary staff), posts, appointments, recruitment, and the university's organisation structure.

The system is the principal source of staff information across the institution. It is also a critical administrative tool within HR. As well as links with other administrative systems, eg Finance, it provides information for, amongst others - IRIS, Contact Directory, BOFINS, and is the source of staff information for the DataHub.

Accessing PIMS

PIMS is a part of the Oracle Applications suite

  1. Open Internet Explorer or Firefox (requires Java Runtime Environment) and go to the Oracle Applications launch page.

  2. Log in using your own Oracle username and password. The database name is 'prod'.

  3. From the Oracle Applications Main Menu, select PIMS.

To use any part of Oracle Applications you will require an Oracle username (this is a separate entity from your UOB username).

Requests for PIMS access should be made to the HR Systems Team (hr-systems@bristol.ac.uk). The level of access, or role, you are granted will depend on the particular nature of your job. For instance, a departmental manager may be granted a high level of access to sometimes sensitive data about all members of staff within their own department, while another user may be given a lower level of access to data for all university staff.

Training

Training is available. See the relevant Staff Development course schedule.

Documentation

Information about PIMS (including training documentation) can be found from the HR PIMS web page.

Support

In the first instance, all queries regarding PIMS should be sent by e-mail to the HR Systems Team (hr-systems@bristol.ac.uk).
