Contact Directory

Description

The Contact Directory contains information about people, departments, phone numbers and email addresses at the University of Bristol. The Contact Directory provides a search facility, accessible from both inside and outside the University, for users to obtain an individual's contact information. For users with appropriate access rights, it also provides an interface to update contact details.

Much of the data in the directory is drawn dynamically from the University's corporate systems. Staff and students joining the University automatically appear in the directory and as people leave the University their records are removed. This Contact Directory is now the University's corporate source of information linking people to phone numbers. The University switchboard will be using this information to connect callers who phone the switchboard number. There is no need to separately inform the exchange of any changes.

Accessing the Contact Directory

The Contact Directory application is accessed using a web browser. The Contact Directory is available at http://www.bristol.ac.uk/contact/.

You don't need to login to perform a search. However it is necessary to login to update the data. Updates are performed by Contact Directory administrators. To become a Contact Directory administrator, contact the switchboard (telephone-services@bristol.ac.uk) in the first instance. The login requires your UOB username and password. There is additional information available about the UOB domain.

Documentation

The Contact Directory application has an online help section. This includes a user guide for those interested in searching, and also a guide for administrators who need to update the information. The documentation also includes a list of departmental contact directory administrators, to be contacted in the first instance if you would like your phone number changed. A 'What to do if...' section tells you who to contact if you would like other information changed, eg if your email address is incorrect.
