This controls which folder deleted messages are moved to. If you do not want to save your deleted messages to a folder then set this to ‘Do not use Trash’.
Please note: if you do not use a trash folder then deleted messages are removed entirely from your mailbox. You will not be able to retrieve/ un-delete them.

This controls which folder draft messages are saved to. If this is set to ‘Do not use Drafts’ then there will be no ‘Save Draft’ button on the compose page.

This controls whether a copy of the mail you send is saved to one of your folders. If this is set to ‘Don't use Sent’ then no automatic copy will be made of the messages you send.
Determines whether you want the list of folders on the left or right of your window.
With this option, you can select how wide the list of folders will be. If you have very long folder names or large fonts, it is good to set this to a high figure. Otherwise, you should set it to a low figure to optimise screen space.
Please note: you can also change the width of the folder list by dragging the bar to the right of the folders. However, this will be a temporary change until next time you manually refresh your browser (which you will need to do if you change your display theme). On a full page refresh it will be re-sized back to the value you have set for the Options/Folder Preferences/Width of Folder List preference.
SquirrelMail has the functionality to automatically refresh the folder listing pane, usually on the left-hand side of your browser window. This will also update the number of unseen messages that are in each folder. This is a good way to check for unseen messages in the INBOX without having to click on it every time.
This option specifies how to display unseen messages in the folder listing pane. If you set this to ‘No Notification’, you will not be notified of unseen messages. If you set it to ‘INBOX’, the INBOX will become bold when you have new messages, and a number will appear to the right of it to say how many new messages are in it. If you set it to ‘All Folders’, this behaviour will happen on all folders.
Please note: if you have a large number of folders this can slow down the refreshing of web pages. To increase the responsiveness either set to ‘None’, or ‘INBOX’.
This controls the behaviour of the message counter displayed next to each folder in the folder list. Choices are ‘Only Unseen’ and ‘Unseen and Total’.
'Only Unseen' shows how many messages have not been read - for example, if there are 15 messages in your Inbox, but all bar one have been read, the unread message notification text will be '1'.
'Unseen and Total' shows how many messages have not been read as well as showing how many messages there are in total - for example, if there are 15 messages in your Inbox, but all bar one have been read, the unread message notification text will be '1/15'.
Collapsable Folders allow you to 'fold' or collapse a folder which contains sub-folders so that the sub-folders will not be displayed. You can collapse a folder manually by clicking the ‘-’ next to it and expand it again with the ‘+’ sign. Setting this to ‘No’ disables collapsing.
This controls the behaviour of the message counter displayed next to each folder in the folder list. When set to Yes, if the folder contains sub-folders and is collapsed, then the message count includes all messages within all the sub-folders of that folder.
If you search a mailbox, the search will be saved for quick access later. This defines how many mailbox searches will be saved.
This controls how the folder names are displayed in the pop-up selection lists for Trash, Draft and Sent folder options in the Folder Preferences option page.
