What does SmartSieve do?

From the SmartSieve home page you can use the options in the top bar to set up or edit different types of rule:

Rule type

Description

Forward mail (staff and research postgraduates only) SmartSieve can automatically forward all your Bristol email to another email account, as long as you receive your mail on the staff server.
Vacation settings SmartSieve can be used to send an automatic out-of-office, or vacation, message to anyone who mails you when the service is activated. These messages are intended to let correspondents know that you are away and cannot reply to their mail immediately.
New filter rule

SmartSieve can automatically carry out any or all of the following actions to a specific type of email that is sent to your account:

 

  • file it into a specific mailbox/ folder
  • forward to another mail address
  • send a reject message to the recipient
  • discard the message

View all rules list

The SmartSieve home page also displays a View all rules list, which shows all the mail filter rules already set up on your account.  You can use this list to enable, disable or delete a rule (please see the Editing mail filter rules after you have set them up section).
