  1. Tap Start > Messaging. Tap Menu > Tools > New Account.

  2. Enter your University email address and tap Next.

  3. The phone will attempt to find the settings automatically: tap Next.

  4. Enter your name, UoB username and password. Tap Next. (See: Guidance on saving your UoB password on mobile devices.)

  5. Select IMAP4 as the Account type and tap Next.

  6. Enter the following Server information:
    • Incoming mail: staff-imap-srv.bris.ac.uk (staff and research postgraduates) or student-imap-srv.bris.ac.uk (undergraduates and taught postgraduates)
    • Outgoing mail: smtp-auth.bris.ac.uk:587
    • Leave the Domain box blank.
    • Click Finish.

  7. Tap the Options button. Tap Next.

  8. Tick Only display messages from the last... and enter an appropriate figure. Tick require SSL connection. Tick Outgoing mail requires authentication. Tap Next, then tap Finish.

  9. Tap Yes when asked Would you like to download mail for this new account now? YES NO. If you see the message: The server certificate is invalid. Continue anyway YES NO tap Yes.

Your phone is now setup up to synchronise with your UoB email.

  • To view the mail that you have downloaded tap the Start Screen where it says No unread messages, or (for example) 2 Unread message.

  • To view a particular email tap on its subject line.

  • To send and recieve emails, click on Menu, Send/Recieve. You will be prompted for your password.
