Desktop or web?

Which version you use is up to you - and there's nothing to stop you using both: anything you do on one version syncs automatically to the other. Most features available in the desktop version are also available in the web version.
Version Advantages Disadvantages
Desktop
  • Ideal if you are office-based with access to a desktop computer
  • Address book facility (though not connected to the University address book)
  • Loss of Internet connection does not mean loss of access to Calendar
  • Can manage resource accounts (rooms, laptops, etc.)
  • More complicated and less intuitive interface than web version
  • Not supported off-site
Web
  • More intuitive interface than the desktop version
  • Less dialogue screens for setting up meetings, etc.
  • Ideal for mobile users - can be used with most handheld devices
  • Can be accessed from anywhere where there is an Internet connection
  • No address book facilities
  • You cannot sign-in to a resource account using the web version
  • Some limitations when editing repeating or added meetings
  • Does not have settings to show normal and extended hours
Scheduled maintenance to Calendar takes place every week between midnight on Saturday and 10am on Sunday - both the web and desktop versions of Calendar are unavailable during this time. View Calendar's current status.
