Downloading and installing the SyncML client

To select the correct client:

  1. Open 'Internet Explorer' on your device and navigate to: http://www.synthesis.ch/dl_client.php?lang=e&lay=desk&bp=CPDA&pv=SMPWM#dlds_CPDA1
  2. Scroll down to the 'Downloads' section and click on the download link for the 'STD' .CAB file (approx. 310 KB).
  3. Scroll down to read the software's license and tick the box to accept its terms, then click 'Download Now'.
  4. On the 'Download' dialogue that opens tick 'Open file after download' and click 'Yes'.
  5. If you are asked 'Do you want to continue?', select 'Yes' and SyncML will install itself.

Synchronising SyncML with Calendar

To start the synchronisation process:

  1. When the program has finished installing, click 'Start' followed by 'Programs' then 'Synthesis SyncML'.
  2. Click the 'Menu' option at the bottom of the screen followed by 'Settings...' and 'Server...'

To set the correct server settings:

  1. Enter the settings exactly as shown in the 'Server table' below.

Server option Settings to enter
SyncML Server URL https://calendar.bris.ac.uk:443/ocst-bin/ocas.fcgi
User name Your normal UoB Username.
Password Your Calendar Password. This may be different from your UoB password.

To set the correct data settings:

  1. Click Menu, Settings..., Data...
  2. Enter the settings exactly as shown in the 'Data table' below and click 'Save' (you will have to scroll down the screen to complete this).
Data option Settings to enter
Contacts - DB Path ./Contacts
Sync mode slow
Events - DB Path ./Calendar/Events
Sync mode normal
Events - Only between Tick this option and choose how many days of past and future events you want to sync for.
Tasks - DB Path ./Calendar/Tasks
Sync mode slow

To select the types of data you want to synchronise with Oracle Calendar:

Start synchronisation

  1. Tick 'Events' (and 'Tasks' also if you use this functionality within Calendar) and click 'Sync'.
