Why am I seeing the "proxy authentication required" page?

The "proxy authentication required" page appears when:

  1. the user's browser is configured to use the University's off-site proxy; and
  2. the user accesses a page that requires authentication; and
  3. the user has not yet authenticated.

There are two main reasons why the web browser may be configured to use the off-site proxy:

  1. The browser has been intentionally configured to use the off-site proxy; or
  2. The browser has been configured to use the proxy server on the main University network or on ResNet.

The purpose of the off-site proxy is to allow users to access resources that are IP-address protected (i.e. which allow access only to users on the University's network).  This is typically used to gain access to electronic journals and databases.

If you do not wish to use the off-site proxy, you'll need to remove the configuration settings from your web browser.
