Many computers have 'personal firewall' software to help protect the system. However, if configured incorrectly, such software can block legitimate access to the Internet.
If you use the firewall built-in to Windows XP or Vista no special configuration is required. This built-in Windows Firewall is perfectly sufficient for home users. We often recommend users of other personal firewall software uninstall it and use the Windows firewall instead due to the problems third-party software can cause. However if you are unable to install your third-party firewall or wish to carry on using it you must configure it to allow access as follows:
| DNS Name | IP address | Ports |
|---|---|---|
| wwwcache1.bris.ac.uk | 137.222.10.57 | tcp/80 and tcp/8080 |
| wwwcache2.bris.ac.uk | 137.222.10.58 | tcp/80 and tcp/8080 |
| v1.cache.bris.ac.uk | 137.222.10.108 | tcp/80 and tcp/8080 |
| v2.cache.bris.ac.uk | 137.222.10.109 | tcp/80 and tcp/8080 |
| v3.cache.bris.ac.uk | 137.222.10.110 | tcp/80 and tcp/8080 |
| v4.cache.bris.ac.uk | 137.222.10.111 | tcp/80 and tcp/8080 |
