Internet Explorer 7 IE7 works well with proxy on XP but there are some problems with IE7 on Vista - see suggestion You may need to put UOB\ in front of your username. See known problems.

Check with your local IT support and other users of your computer

Please be aware that configuring your computer to use this service may affect others who also use the computer, particularly if they are not members of the University but are likely to access online journals or similar scholarly resources.

If you are in a cybercafé or similar you might find that computer you are using has been locked down so that its proxy settings cannot be changed. In this case you won't be able to use the off-site proxy.

If your computer is on a corporate network there are various issues which may prevent the proxy working. See issues accessing the proxy from corporate/institutional networks.

If your Internet access is provided via a transparent web proxy this may stop the offsite proxy working. It can be difficult to tell whether a transparent proxy is in use. Many mobile broadband products (broadband over mobile phone networks) use a transparent proxy.
