How to use the proxy to access restricted websites

Make sure you first check you can use the off-site proxy and configure your computer to start using the University web proxy

How to use the off-site proxy

Short instructions

  1. Each day, the first time you go to a journal website or the University website a prompt for a username/password will appear.
  2. Type your standard UOB username and password into the boxes, and click OK. (If Internet Explorer on Windows Vista won't accept your username, try entering it with UOB\ in front. e.g. UOB\ab1234)
  3. The journal or other restricted website will now be displayed.

Illustrated instructions

The example below uses Internet Explorer. Other browsers will behave similarly, though the text and dialog boxes may differ.

  1. The first page you attempt to access which requires authentication will present you with a Username/Password dialog box.

  2. Type your standard UOB username and password into the boxes, and click OK. (If Internet Explorer on Windows Vista won't accept your username, try entering it with UOB\ in front. e.g. UOB\ab1234)

  3. The journal or other restricted website will now be displayed.

  4. The process is complete! Note that you'll have to repeat the above process if you close down and then reopen your web browser.

  5. If you find that the proxy service refuses to accept your UOB username and password, and you are certain they are correct, you may need to configure your computer to use the previous version of the proxy service (the Authenticated Proxy service).
