Known home routers
If you are trying to use a router with the UoB virtual private network, you may wish to bear in mind the following rules of thumb:
- If the router has a 'VPN Passthrough' or 'PPTP Passthrough' function, enable it. Disable all other VPN functions on the router.
- With most routers, only one person at a time can connect to the same VPN server. eg If you are in a house sharing an internet connection and your connection works intermittently, check that no one else in the house is connected to the VPN when you are trying to connect.
- If you get frequently disconnected: most routers allow you to configure the length of the DHCP lease - set this to as longer time as possible (at least 24 hours).
