Fair usage

In any network it is possible for a small minority of users to consume an excessive proportion of network capacity. On ResNet a few years ago we found that just 10% of people were consuming 60% of the available pipe. This lead to congestion, especially at peak times, and everyone suffered.

We have a fair usage policy to address this. Each person on ResNet has an allowance of so many gigabytes per week. Most people on ResNet come nowhere near using the amount of network capacity set out in the fair usage policy. Please don't worry about it and let that stop you enjoying using ResNet.

If you are concerned that you may be a heavy user our My ResNet system will tell you how much of your weekly bandwidth allocation you are using, there are also some ResNet gadgets that you can use to monitor your usage.

For advice on reducing your usage please see: What's eating my bandwidth?
