Prof. George Davey Smith named as Scientific Director of NIHR Biomedical Research Centre

Director of the MRC IEU George Davey Smith, has been named as Scientific Director of a new £21 million research centre, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC).
Launching April 3rd, the centre – directed by Professor John Iredale, Pro Vice Chancellor for Health at the University of Bristol – is set to conduct cutting-edge research that will develop new treatments, diagnostics, methods of prevention and care for patients in a wide range of diseases.
Professor Davey Smith said “this is a really exciting initiative which exemplifies the flow between basic science funded by the MRC and implementation research funded by the NIHR”
Prof Iredale said "Bristol’s expertise in population health and clinical research, particularly in cardiac surgery, combined with our strong health partnerships will help our Biomedical Research Centre deliver tangible advances in patient care."
