PhD in History of Art
Before I came to Bristol, I did a foundation course on lens-based media at Plymouth College of Art and Design. The course in History of Art caught my eye because I could carry on studying art. The city itself was also a great attraction for me. So I first came to do my BA, then I did the Master's and then the PhD.
The Department of History of Art is very friendly, and I got to know all the staff very well and was taught by most of them. There is a great programme of support, such as writing skills, and there are also lots of lectures and seminars. We just launched two research strands on British Art and Internationalism, around which there are many events happening, with scholars visiting. It is very stimulating.
Bristol is fantastic. It’s got a laid-back atmosphere. It’s compact, everything is within walking distance, and I can cycle out of the city in five minutes. There is a really good cycling community.
