BORIS

The University has developed a web-based system, BORIS, to streamline the process of advertising jobs and to enable applicants to view full job details and apply for jobs online.


Job vacancies homepage

The job vacancies homepage can be accessed by anyone through a web browser and provides links to comprehensive details and an on-line application facility for each vacancy.

Advertising vacancies

If you have a vacancy that needs advertising then please contact your Faculty/ Divisional HR Team to discuss the details and the logistics of the recruitment and selection process; the HR Team will then upload the vacancy details onto the BORIS system for submission onto the University’s job vacancies web pages, jobs.ac.uk web site, the Jobcentre network and any other appropriate media that has been requested.

The named contacts for a specified vacancy and the Head of School or Division will receive an automated e-mail when the vacancy goes live, and can also log in to the staff only part of BORIS via the job vacancies homepage (using their UoB Domain username/ password) and view and track the progress of the vacancy.  

Online applications

By logging in to BORIS via the job vacancies homepage and accessing the 'applications' link, the named contacts for a specified vacancy and the Head of School or Division can view the application details (including CV’s and supporting letters for academic vacancies) for anyone who applies for a vacancy on-line. Running totals of the number of on and off-line applications received are also viewable.

If other members of staff need to view the on-line applications for a particular vacancy then you can simply e-mail them the URL for the web page containing the applications; external users will not be able to access these web pages. Alternatively, individual online applications can also be saved as HTML files and e-mailed. Please note that job applications contain confidential information and should only therefore be accessible by those directly involved in administering or taking part in the selection process, and handled in line with the Data Protection Act.

Online applicant data and monitoring information is electronically transferred to the University’s HR database (PIMS).

Archive

Users with a UoB Domain username/ password can log into the staff only part of BORIS via the job vacancies homepage to view the archive of vacancies for their organisational unit.

Designated BORIS Administrators

Please note that the re-SPR BORIS Administrator role that enabled local managers to put vacancies onto BORIS directly no longer exists, as vacancy details are input onto BORIS by HR. If School Managers or other admin contacts need to view vacancies and on-line applications then they need to be specified as one of the two named contacts for the vacancy.
