Redundancy

The University is committed to ensuring security and continuity of employment for as many of its staff as is reasonably practicable. Every reasonable effort will be made to avoid redundancy situations arising and to avoid making individual members of staff redundant. The University will therefore always seek, wherever possible, to identify opportunities to re deploy individuals both prior to and following any formal redundancy situation being instigated, whilst operating within a framework that assures quality, and addresses equality of opportunity and diversity issues.

In cases where compulsory redundancy cannot be avoided, the University's Redundancy Procedure (Ordinance 27) and supporting Redundancy Process seek to provide mechanisms for ensuring that the redundancy situation is managed in the most fair, consistent and sympathetic manner possible.

Please note that the Redundancy Procedure does not apply when a fixed term contract ends due to the expiry of the fixed term, in which case the procedure laid down in the Fixed Term Contracts Procedure (Ordinance 26) will instead apply.
