Bristol MA Student Wins Funding to Present Research at International Conference

Lauren Cole, a student on Bristol’s MA in History and graduate of the BA in History, has won funding to present her research at an international conference. Lauren will be running a workshop at the ‘Foreign Knowledge: Medieval Attitudes towards the Unknown’ conference at the Ruhr-University Bochum in June.
The workshop, entitled ‘The Female Orgasm as Foreign Knowledge: Hildegard of Bingen’s Medical Theories’, will focus on the three interconnected topics of theology, medicine, and gender, engaging participants with concepts relatively unexplored in the closed canon of twelfth-century male scholars, but seemingly well-known to female religious.
On hearing the news, MA Programme Director Dr. Anke Holdenried remarked: ‘This is an excellent Graduate Workshop on a fascinating topic, and it puts interdisciplinary conversations centre stage. I'm delighted that Lauren will be expanding her knowledge of the field in this international group.’
