Summer Pilot Project with National Trust Estate in Western Somerset
5 August 2016
Backed by seed corn funding of £5,000 from a newly established UoB research institute, the Brigstow Institute (directed by Professor Tim Cole), Professor Peter Coates is currently running a project in partnership with the National Trust’s Holnicote estate, a large (12,000-acre) property on Exmoor, near Minehead, in western Somerset. Entitled ‘Inspire, Move and Illuminate’, the project is part of the estate’s ongoing ‘Spirit of Place’ exercise - an attempt to capture the distinctive qualities that local residents, visitors and Trust staff associate with this particular place whose landscapes range from high moorland to pebble beach. The research is being pursued by recent History graduate (2014) Ben Eagle, a commentator on environmental and agricultural issues.
