The Department congratulates Martin Earley, whose PhD has just passed, following a viva conducted by Prof Bernard Harris (Southampton) and Dr Hugh Pemberton (Bristol). The thesis, supervised by Professor Roger Middleton, is on 'Public social and welfare spending in the UK, 1830-1950: explanations from data and trends'.
