Bristol economic historians warn against panic over public debt

Three members of the History Department staff are amongst twenty economic historians who have warned against panicking over the scale of the UK's public sector debt - noting that this debt is not unduly high by the standards of the past two centuries. In a letter to The Guardian, they call for a greater focus on economic growth as the best means by which to repay public debt and for a rebalancing of the economy away from financial services.
