Teaching format

Your timetable and teaching will vary according to the year of study, but typically you will experience a mix of lectures, seminars and various types of languages classes throughout your course.

In the first year, there are survey courses of history and literature consisting of two lectures per week, plus a smaller seminar group once a fortnight. There are also various languages classes including writing skills, oral, aural and grammar. Independent study and preparation will also occupy a considerable part of your timetable in addition to scheduled classes.

You will also have group tutorials on study skills with your Personal Tutor.

In the second and final years, the language classes continue in a similar pattern, but the rest of your timetable is taken up with optional courses. Typically you can expect four language classes per week, plus two hours of teaching a week for each otpional course you choose.
