Prospective Undergraduates

Thank you for visiting the Department's web pages. The Department offers a wide range of approaches to the study of the major languages of the Hispanic and Portuguese worlds and their literature, history and culture.

Depending on the programme you are following, you may study Catalan or Portuguese as well as Spanish. In optional courses in your second and final years you may study subjects such as: modern Latin American history, medieval Spanish literature, modern Spanish and Latin American literature, linguistic history and Spanish and Business Studies. 'Literature' includes drama and there are also options in practical theatre and film.

The Department's research and teaching specialisms include: medieval manuscripts, the Cuban Revolution, Brazilian popular song and the modern Spanish and Argentinian novel.

The Department has a good mix of senior and younger staff. If you are interested in discovering more about the languages, literatures, cultures and histories of Spain, Portugal, the countries of Latin America and other countries that form part of the Hispanic and Lusophone world, then we would be interested in your application.
